In the current situation, releasing films on a digital platform has its pros and cons. Films that are completed and ready to release will have to wait for till the Covid -19 completely withdraw or things get under control. A lot of movies have suffered, and filmmakers are undecided to release in cinemas or directly release on popular OTT platform. Films that are scheduled to release on earlier now have to wait for coronavirus to normalize.
Producers, exhibitors, and distributors all are having a tough time deciding the release dates of their respected films. Social distancing and gathering of the people are against the norms, and it will make a big impact on film arrival at cinemas. Big budget and highly anticipated films will now have to wait for a little longer to come to the theatre.
The pandemic created doubt and filmmakers are not in a rush to release their films in the theatre. No one can predict the impact of Covid -19 as worldwide territories like USA, UK, middle east and gulf countries cinemas are completely shut down due to coronavirus rapid fast transmission and business of these films are hampered massively.
Bollywood films take battering since the pandemic spreads and the film industry suffers most of the deadly virus in business-wise. Production work and movies that announced to release earlier date now have to rethink a lot to decide the new release date of their films finally. Releasing films on OTT platforms has its pros and cons.
Filmmaker and distribution companies have their task cut out as they have to take the informed decision based on what will benefit their film outcome. The spread of virus keep on halting the film’s production work, and makers have no other choice but to release their movies on the digital platform. It is a well thought and smart decision as Covid -19 is currently creating havoc on all countries.
Worldwide, Indian films have a bigger marketplace, and a lot of revenue and profit hangs on the outcome of films' digital rights. On the other side, theatrically released movies are going to do more profits and benefit for all exhibitors and distributors across the country. People will rethink when they watch their films on cinemas as globally coronavirus impact and transmission spread somehow restricted their choice of watching movies on the big screen.
Well, as an ardent fan of films, we all hope for movies to do well and people that associated with films should get their hardwork paid off. It is a debate that will continue until the Covid- 19 reduces its impact on the global marketplace. Releasing films on a digital platform is bound to make the audience a chance to watch the latest movies in their comfort zone.
