One of the biggest POP culture trends of our generation is Game of Thrones. GOT fans and fanatics are everywhere, whether it be the US or India. People are head over heels towards not just the characters of the show but also the great visuals that it offers. In the past decade, as GOT premiered in 2011, the hype was at its peak from the very inception of the series. Media outlets, late-night TV Talk shows, websites, bloggers, Video reactors, etc. all were praising GOT.
But, even after all this, there are many people who still have not watched this show, the reasons being very childish to acceptable. So, to make sure that you are not left out of the joy of watching a show this good, which even I started watching just to troll its fan base with decent context, we are going to talk about Game of Thrones, the back-story of the series and of course, there will be possible spoilers, and with that, I’ve warned you all.
What is Game of Thrones all about?
To begin with, GOT is a fantasy show and has an amazingly vast hard-core geek fan base. The plot of the show is set in a medieval era and a great number of people are looking forward to sitting on this throne made of 1000 swords. This throne, or as we know it, Iron Throne, is where the king of the entire continent sits. It is more or less a metonym equivalent to someone who’ll rule Westeros.

The series offers us all kinds of plot twists we can’t even begin to think of on our own. From strategically planned backstabbing to sheer abuse of power, you will find yourself around a plethora of characters having traits ranging all the way from being hopelessly honest to being a fricking a-hole.
Now, coming to the plot of the show, the fictional continent of Essos and Westeros experience long summers and even longer winters. And, by long, here we mean decades. Some of the most notable families that rule different parts of this continent under the King on the Iron throne, willingly and unwillingly of course, are Baratheons, Starks, Tyrells, Greyjoys and Lannisters.
What are the highlights of Game of Thrones?
Well, every episode has a new highlight throughout GOT’s 8 seasons of ruckus. But, the biggest highlight is the region in the north of Westeros. This is the place where Night’s watch is present. These soldiers cum prisoners protect the rest of the continent from breach of White Walkers.
White Walkers are mystical creatures that live ever further north of the continent beyond the Great Wall, which is 70 feet tall and 300 miles long. It separates the two parts of the world and the only pathway between the two is through the camp of the Night’s Watch.

Also, Dragons have their fair share in building the hype about GOT around the globe. These Dragons are the children of Daenerys Targaryen, and this lady is behind the famous phrase ‘Dracarys’ which you will find to be mentioned by GOT fans in every other context. Literally!
Where did GOT come from?
You might be wondering as to where this show came from. So, Game of Thrones is an adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s Fantasy book series of the same title. The first edition of this series was published in 1996. As of now, it is a seven-book series of which some are yet to be published. These 700-1000 pages long novels with 1000s of characters are what make this entire storyline so much immersive and a universe that is ever-expanding in terms of tales.
