It looks as if the Tamilrockers piracy platform is unchecked. The website recently leaked out Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, the new Telugu release.
The movie, which stars a slew of actors from across the industry, has been pitched as one of this year's highly anticipated films. And with a star cast that boasts names such as Megastar Chiranjeevi, Superstar Amitabh Bachchan, Tamil stars Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara, and Kannada actor Sudeep — it's obvious why that's the case as day.
Surender Reddy helmed the film, and Chiranjeevi's son Ram Charan bankrolled it. According to the reviews and ratings of the various film critics and audiences, it is evident that the movie was worth 2.5 stars. Most of the critics said that this movie was a typical Chiranjeevi film.
The major weakness in Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy is the attempt by Surender to push a sprawling tale into a mold that fits the narrow concept of commercial mainstream cinema. The outcome is we get a typical film from Chiranjeevi, where Chiranjeevi is doing what he has done in his last 150 films–battling for the needy and the affluent. The only difference is that he is doing it while wearing the outfit of an ancient warrior and riding a horse. Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy is based on the life of the feudal leader of the 16th century, Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, who is said to have sown the seeds of rebellion before the first independence war in India was officially recorded in 1857.
The film is a tad too long at two hours and 50 minutes and needed a tighter edit. A subject's dialogs with so much complexity certainly needed to add weight to them. The plot starts up in the second half, and the true action kicks in. Many of the stunts (by Greg Powell, Lee Whittaker, Ram-Laxman, and A Vijay) are far from being realistic, but it does make a good watch. The music is passable, but the bad lyrics are sticking out.
Yeah, the movie is partially jingoistic, but when you're thinking about a revolt that ultimately sparked another revolution of epic proportions (the 1857 Indian Revolt), this kind of chest-thumping patriotism isn't shocking.
While the storytelling has its faults, what needs to be praised is that the creators pulled this tale out of history's pages and put it on such a large canvas that we could see.
