The film is part of the medieval Mamankam festival held in the 17th century on the banks of the Bharathappuzha in Kerala. Since years, the warriors known as Chaaverukal have been conspiring against the Zamorin rulers to overthrow them. Chandroth (Unni Mukundan) takes the lead and comes out of this dynasty to destroy the ruler of Zamorin, followed by a young child.

The film has a reliable setup and high-quality values. The camerawork is excellent, and the outstanding
BGM takes the picture a little higher. The film is more like a drama like a conversation than fighting and dancing. There are two big wars, one at the beginning and the other. They were well composed, and Mammotty superbly portrayed.

First, the film has a heavy-duty Malayalam taste that is hard to swallow for Telugu viewers. In fact, t plot runs at the speed of the snail in all halves and will get on your nerves. Emotions in the first half don't work for one thing. Even the plot is very complicated, and you can't tell what's going on for the first 20 minutes.

The story is simple and focused on killing the Dictator, but the writers have created so many needless scenes that one gets too annoyed and frustrated. The climax isn't that good, also, so it wrapped up in a jiffy.

All in all, Mamangam is a long and dull historical costume drama. There's plenty to relate to the
Malayalam audience as they highlight their history. The story is all right, and so are the actors, but the repetitive narrative and lack of nice, entertaining moments make this film a tiresome watch for the Telugu audience.
